Yorktown, Va. – The National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration will begin a project this month to make repairs and other improvements to a number of bridges and access ramps along the Colonial Parkway. The $2.35 million contract, funded through Federal Highway Administration repair and rehab funds, includes bridges along the Parkway at Halfway Creek, Powhatan Creek, College Creek and Yorktown Creek, as well as Beaver Dam Creek along the Yorktown Battlefield tour road; and access ramps at Route 199/Kingspoint, Route 199/Cheatham Annex, Queen’s Lake, and Parkway Drive.
The work will be conducted in phases over the next 12 months and will be completed by Aldridge Brothers, Inc., of Robbinsville, North Carolina. Although the complete schedule has not been finalized, work will begin at Halfway Creek on approximately July 7. With the exception of the Yorktown Creek and Beaver Dam Creek phases, the bridges and ramps will remain open during the work, utilizing alternating traffic patterns. For the safety of both the crews and motorists, the speed limit in the work zones will be reduced and that speed limit will be strictly enforced by Park Rangers.
Information regarding the schedule of the work will be released as it becomes available. Updates will also be posted on the Colonial National Historical Park web site at www.nps.gov/colo and on Twitter at ColonialParkNPS. For further information, contact the National Park Service Public Affairs Office at 757-898-2409.

Did You Know?
During the Civil War, 632 Union dead were buried in the heart of the 1781 battlefield. In 1866 this cemetery became a national cemetery. Within a 50 mile radius, the remains of over 1500 Union soldiers were disinterred from their war burials and honorably placed in the Yorktown National Cemetery.
