Colorado National Monument to Waive Entrance Fees In Honor of Veterans Day Weekend Saturday, November 10 through Monday, November 12

In celebration of Veterans Day, Colorado National Monument will offer free admission on Saturday, November 10 through Monday, November 12. This fee free weekend is offered to all visitors in honor of current members, retired members, and reserve members of the United States armed forces and their families.

This fee free weekend has been observed since 2006. Waiving entrance fees to all public lands on Veterans Day and Veterans Day Weekend is one way to show appreciation for the millions of men and women who fight to keep America's public lands accessible to all Americans.

In appreciation of our veteran's noble sacrifice and service to their country, all veterans of any era and all military personnel and their families who visit Colorado National Monument during Veterans Day Weekend will receive a 10% discounts on all items in the Colorado National Monument Association bookstore located at the Visitor Center. 

Besides a fee-free weekend, Colorado National Monument will offer visitors the opportunity to participate in ranger led programs:

Saturday, November 10     
2:00 p.m. Canyon Rim Ramble Guided Walk 

Join a ranger on a one mile stroll along the beautiful Canyon Rim Trail. Hear stories about John Otto, and learn more about the rocks and wildlife. Meet at the Visitor Center. 1 hour

3:00 p.m. Porch Talk, "Living on the Edge - Desert Bighorn Sheep." Once on the brink of extirpation, today the desert bighorn sheep population is thriving in and around Colorado National Monument. Learn what it takes to survive in this vertical environment and discover a few of their unique adaptations. Meet at the Visitor Center. 20 minutes.

 

Sunday, November 11        
11:00 a.m. What you "Otto" Know About John            
Come hear some colorful stories about the Monument's first ranger, John Otto. Meet at the Visitor Center. 20 minutes.

1:00 p.m. Canyon Rim Ramble Guided Walk                
Join a ranger on a one mile stroll along the beautiful Canyon Rim Trail. The breathtaking views of Independence Monument are sure to be a highlight of your day. Meet at the Visitor Center. 1 hour

 3:00 p.m. Carving the Canyons

Wind and ice, sand dunes and floods, have all left their mark on the Monument's sheer-walled canyons and massive rock towers. Come hear a geologic story that spans over a billion years. Meet at the Visitor Center. 20 minutes.
