Download: Program Option: Maps, GPS and Bighorn Sheep (5 miles, 4 hours) On this ranger-led hike in Lower Monument Canyon, students will use topo maps and gps units to investigate desert bighorn sheep habitat and behaviors. Using data from recent research, students will analyze past locations of radio collared sheep and relate those locations to a topographic map as well as the terrain. *Please note scheduling for this field trip is dependent on availability of the gps class set. This class was developed as part of the Grand Valley Teaching Environmental Science Naturally (T.E.N.) program, an interagency, site-based, outdoor environmental science program for teachers. Thanks to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Central High School Teacher PJ Jansen for contributions to this curriculum. The gps class set is available through our partnership with Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the T.E.N. program. More information about Colorado Parks and Wildlife T.E.N. Programs |
