Fireworks Kick-Off Centennial

Fireworks to Kick-Off Centennial Year Long Celebration on New Year’s Eve at Colorado National Monument Superintendent Joan Anzelmo invites the community to save the date of December 31, 2010 to kick off the Monument’s Centennial. Throughout the day, the park will host a variety of fun and family-friendly events. Then at 8 p.m., the monument will host a fireworks display to celebrate the monument’s birthday in grand style and ring in the New Year a little early. Visitors who wish to view the fireworks will be able to gather at the park visitor center, the Saddlehorn Campground area, the Book Cliffs View shelter, and along the Canyon Rim Trail. The fireworks will be launched from the parking lot at Independence Monument Overlook. Rim Rock Drive will be temporarily closed in advance of and during the fireworks to allow the fireworks to be launched and to keep people and vehicles away from the launch site for safety reasons. The Colorado National Monument Association (CNMA) will fund the fireworks display through donations and the association’s new Centennial memberships. Stay tuned for a lot more details regarding the Centennial New Year’s Eve celebration. The monument’s website will also provide updated information on Centennial events. If you wish to support the Monument’s Centennial please contact park headquarters at 970-858-3617 ext. 300 or contact the Colorado National Monument Association at 970-858-3617 ext. 308. |
