Starting April 26, 2008 with the National Junior Ranger Day celebration held at Clara Barton National Historic Site between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. when you visit, you can complete a Junior Ranger Program book and become an official Junior Ranger.  The book also includes the Junior Ranger Program for adjoining Glen Echo Park, walk next door, complete the Glen Echo Park book and become a Junior Ranger at both parks in the same visit.

Choose from either grades 2 - 4 or grades 5 and up. At the end of the activities you can print out your own personalized certificate. Supply Closet at Clara Barton National Historic Site. Clara Barton supplied the necessities of survival - food, clothing and shelter, but also provided tools for cleaning-up and rebuilding. Her principle was be prepared before the disaster occurred. Clara Barton stated:

"Before us now lie the problems of the future, and the question is: How shall we meet them? As friends of humanity, while there is still a possibility of war or calamity, it behooves us to prepare….

… the world-wide motto of the Red Cross:

 

In time of peace and prosperity, prepare for war and calamity."

Did You Know?
Unfortunately, on Christmas Eve 1851, during the Fillmore Administration, two thirds of Jefferson's books perished in a fire at the Library of Congress which President Millard Fillmore personally assisted in fighting. The fire was caused by faulty chimney flues.
