Bio:
In the battle of Sabine Pass, on September 8, 1863, a Union flotilla steamed through Sabine Pass, with the intention of attacking Fort Griffin, and occupying Texas. Lt. Dowling, in command of Fort Griffin'³ small force of 44 men, forced the Union flotilla to withdraw through the use of well-aimed artillery fire.
