Donations to our park are used to fund a variety of projects involving Visitor Service, Interpretation, Exhibits, Publications, the management and protection of Christiansted NHS, Buck Island Reef National Monument and Salt River Bay NHP & EP.

Slaves were indispensable for the “muscle” needed for construction and the loading and unloading of cargoes. Free Blacks practiced many of the same trades as the whites, and were especially skilled as builders.
