Alexander Hamilton lived on St. Croix between the age of 10 and 18. He was indentured to a dry goods seller, Mr. Kruger, on King Street. His mother, Rachel Fawcett Lavien, was imprisoned for several months at Fort Christiansvaern on charges of adultry. Once released, she fled St. Croix and met Alexander’s father, James Hamilton, who she never married.
