Earthangle's African/Caribbean Connections Conference invites St. Croix to Find Your Park at the Christiansted National Historic Site

CHRISTIANSTED – On Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 9:30-5:00 p.m. Earthangle, the National Park Service, and Eastern National will present a one day African/Caribbean Conference at the Christiansted National Historic Site. This cultural conference highlights the celebrations and struggles of the Caribbean and African Diaspora experiences through music, dance and guest lectures. The event comes at the end of National Park Week, in which admission to all National Parks is free from April 18-25. It also signals the kickoff of the Find Your Park campaign where the National Park Service invites all people to advocate and strengthen their relationship with their favorite parks at the local, territorial, and national level.

The keynote address at the conference is Dr. Jemadari Kamara, Director of the Center for African, Caribbean and Community Development from the University of Massachusetts. Morikeba Kouyate griot and kora player will present the melodic sounds of the West African Jali peoples and be the featured performance artist.

The public is invited to participate in drum and dance classes, and crafts and specific conference materials will be available for purchase at Eastern National located next to the Scale House in Christiansted.

Attendance is free, and we hope to see you all there. Come enjoy and appreciate our African and Caribbean Connections Conference.

The National Park Service will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2016. Look for more Find Your Park initiatives in the coming year.
