Join fabric artist Zelda Grant for an afternoon of creative crafts on Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Charles Pinckney National Historic Site in Mount Pleasant. Grant will lead a workshop for children using African fabrics to create personalized bookmarks. The craft workshop is free, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Affirmation Bookmark Project allows youngsters to nurture their imagination with a hands-on activity. Zelda Grant has successfully worked through the South Carolina Arts Commission and Georgia Council for the Arts, inspiring hundreds of students to feed their imaginations. She has demonstrated her craft on the Carol Duvall Show, conducted workshops for the Smithsonian Educational Center, participated in juried art festivals around the country and recently presented a solo exhibition at the Avery Research Center at the College of Charleston. The self-taught artist lives and maintains her studio in McClellanville, South Carolina, where she is on the board of the McClellanville Arts Council.

Charles Pinckney National Historic Site preserves a 28-acre remnant of Snee Farm, the lowcountry plantation of Charles Pinckney, a founding father and framer of the United States Constitution. Located at 1254 Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant, the park is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Days. There is no entrance fee. For more information, call (843) 881-5516.
