Canal Pride Days

C&O Canal Pride Days
Your Park in Your Hands

Saturdays, beginning April 19th through May 10, 2008

The C&O Canal Trust, in partnership with the C & O Canal National Historical Park, seeks energetic people and community-minded organizations to tackle over 100 revitalization and stewardship projects throughout the park during the upcoming Canal Pride Days. Volunteers are needed for a wide range of activities including painting lockhouses, repairing and re-painting visitor signs, rebuilding picnic tables, cutting back overgrown vegetation, constructing trails, and much more. Canal Pride Days begins on Saturday, April 19th and continues on Saturdays through May 10th. The focus in this, the first year of the event, is on the most heavily-visited section of the park, from Seneca to Georgetown.

Canal Pride Days is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, meet new people, and show your pride for our beautiful C&O Canal National Historical Park! Individuals and groups of all skill levels are encouraged to participate.

Together, we can show our pride for our park, while raising awareness of its ongoing stewardship needs. With your help, this can mark the beginning of a lasting relationship between yourself, the C & O Canal, and our future. For more information or to get involved, please visit the C&O Canal Trust web site at or call (301) 714-2233.

The C&O Canal Trust is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to work in partnership with the National Park Service to protect, restore, and promote the C&O Canal National Historical Park. The Trust seeks to ensure that the park’s natural, historical, and recreational potential is fully realized

Did You Know?
George Washington's dream of connecting the eastern states with the western frontier led to the creation of the Patowmack Company. Locks were built around unnavigable parts of the Potomac River for improved commerce. The C&O Canal inherited the right of way after the Patowmack Company's demise.
