Temporary Bridge Closure near Fletcher’s Boat House

Washington D.C. – The National Park Service is temporarily closing the small bridge leading to Fletcher’s Boat House located in the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. The bridge leads to the vehicular underpass access to the river. Routine semi-annual inspection by Federal Highways Inspectors revealed accelerated corrosion on several of the steel beams. As a precaution the park is closing the bridge for approximately 3 weeks while temporary repairs can be made.

The park is asking the public to stay clear of the immediate work area for their safety while repairs are being made. Visitors can still access the park on foot across the large bridge over the canal, but parking will be limited on the Abner Cloud House side of the canal.
