Carderock Pavilion

Carderock Picnic Pavilion is a large pavilion, open on three sides, that accommodates up to 200 people comfortably. Convenient, ample parking is nearby.

There are 26 picnic tables in the pavilion. Electricity, in the form of 4 no-volt outlets, is available for stereos and/or sound equipment. There are 2 large grills outside the pavilion and a large fireplace within the pavilion. Water and comfort stations are also available.

There is a softball field and a smaller area for volleyball or relay games. Horseshoe pits are near the front of the pavilion. Sports equipment is not provided, although poles are available for volleyball.

Carderock is available by PERMIT ONLY during the regular season. Obtain permits by calling (301) 767-3731. Reservations are taken from the 1st working day of the new calendar year.

The cost for the permit is $150.00 for Monday-Thursday; and $250.00 for Friday-Sunday, and Holidays. This fee includes an alcohol permit, available upon request, to serve wine and/or beer, within the pavilion.

Payment in FULL MUST be received within 30 days of initial request or the reservation is canceled. Once payment has been received cancellations and refunds must be requested in writing at least 10 days prior to the event. NO partial refunds are given and NO RAIN DATES are allowed.

  • The park closes at dark, which is one half-hour after sunset. The pavilion must be cleaned and vacated prior to dark.
  • Alcohol is PROHIBITED at the Carderock area of the park this includes the pavilion. Pavilion users are only permitted to possess alcohol if their permits designate alcohol waivers. The alcohol MUST be in a paper or plastic cup, NO open containers may be carried outside the pavilion area at any time.
  • Swimming or wading in the Potomac River or the C&O Canal is extremely dangerous and prohibited by law.
  • The park is a "Trash Free Park". All users must remove their own trash from the park. Trashcans are not provided. This program is meant to reduce refuse impacts on the park and encouraging a clean, healthy environment.
  • Fires may be built in established or portable grills only. ALL fires must be extinguished before leaving the park.
  • Parking is restricted to designated parking lots and parking may not be reserved. Parking or driving on the grass is not permitted. Parking at the pavilion is prohibited.
  • NO live bands, disc jockeys, etc. are permitted. Any volume amplication must be at a sound level that does not carry beyond the pavilion or interfere with the park’s use by any other park visitors.
  • Gambling, raffles and/or the sale of tickets or merchandise are prohibited on park property.
  • NO amusement type rides and/or generators are permitted. (i.e. Moon Bounce, pony rides, dunk tanks, etc.)
