Travertine Nature Center Program Rescheduled

The “Read with a Ranger” program at the Travertine Nature Center has been rescheduled to Friday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. during the month of June.  Park Rangers at Chickasaw National Recreation Area invite children ages 5-8 to participate in this summer program.  Children will learn about park animals, such as, owls, turtles and snakes, and share good books and stories with friends and the rangers.  For more information call the Travertine Nature Center at (580)622-7234 or (580)622-3165.  See you there!

Elk at Platt National Park  

Did You Know?
In addition to a bison herd, from 1920-1934, Platt National Park [the present-day Platt Historic District of Chickasaw National Recreation Area] was host to a small herd of elk. In 1934 most of the elk were slaughtered and fed to families needing relief from the Great Depression.
