The mineral springs found here are focal point of the Platt Historic District, and the primary reason behind the park’s original establishment in 1902. Join park rangers on a two-part series of guided walks this month which explore the natural and cultural history of the park’s “healing” waters and learn more about the past, present, and future of water resources in the region.
The first program in the series, “Living Waters,” will start at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2009. A guided walk beginning at the Vendome Well and ending at Pavilion Springs, this program addresses the historic use and vitality of the mineral springs. Participants should meet the ranger at the Vendome Well parking area located along Broadway Avenue.
The second program in the series, “Hope Springs Eternal,” will start at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2009 in the historic Bromide area. This program discusses the loss of water resources inside the park. Participants should meet the ranger at the Twelfth Street Fountain, just inside the park boundary at the end of Twelfth Street.
Please bring water, appropriate clothing, and wear comfortable shoes. Each walk or program will last about an hour.
