Summer is not over yet! You are invited to join Chickasaw NRA at its Junior Ranger Field Day event for kids. Come by Flower Park, immediately southwest of the intersection of Highways 7 and 177 in Sulphur on Saturday, August 22nd from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Children 12 and younger will enjoy entering their work in coloring, poetry, poster, and costume contests and participating in field events to win prizes! A craft activity will be available on site. Park Superintendent Bruce Noble describes the upcoming field day as, “a debut to the community of our new efforts to step-up the Junior Ranger program within the park.” Bring the whole family to cheer the kids on, and end the morning with a family picnic as a Park Ranger presents a program for all of your enjoyment. This event is open to everyone at no charge. More information on this event is available by calling the Travertine Nature Center at 580 622-7234.

Did You Know?
In addition to a bison herd, from 1920-1934, Platt National Park [the present-day Platt Historic District of Chickasaw National Recreation Area] was host to a small herd of elk. In 1934 most of the elk were slaughtered and fed to families needing relief from the Great Depression.
