Junior Ranger Day at Chickasaw NRA on April 26th

Saturday, April 26, 2008, is National Junior Ranger Day.  The park will host two activities on this date recognizing Junior Ranger Day.  Children may attend a nature walk and investigate nature with a park ranger on a walk to Antelope and Buffalo Springs.  This walk has a round trip length of 1-½ miles and lasts 1-½ hours.  Meet at the front desk at the Travertine Nature Center at 9:00 a.m. to attend the walk.

Later that afternoon, please attend the “Discover Nature” ranger-led program at the Travertine Nature Center.  This program explores the natural world and stories of Chickasaw National Recreation Area at the Travertine Nature Center.  This 45 minute program begins at 3:00 p.m.

Children attending a ranger-led activity, who also completed the park Junior Ranger Activity Booklet, will receive a Junior Ranger badge and patch.

Did You Know?
Chickasaw National Recreation Area is older than Grand Canyon National Park. Originally established in 1902, the park was designated Platt National Park in 1906 and redesignated Chickasaw NRA in 1976. The Grand Canyon was first designated a National Monument in 1908.
