Andy Munro is an astronomer who has conducted fieldwork in Chaco Canyon and at outlying Great Houses. Dr. Munro has applied astronomy techniques in an effort to enhance understanding of human culture. His research has focused on evidence for astronomy among the prehistoric Chacoan buildings. During his program, Dr. Munro will share his findings that provide circumstantial support for the idea that groups of people with varied cultural traditions collaborated at Chaco and that Chaco may have operated, in part, as a regional ritual and pilgrimage center. After the presentation, weather permitting, the park observatory will open for night sky viewing.
