Wednesday, October 15, 2014 (National Fossil Day)
10 a.m. - 2 p.m: Chaco's Deep Time History: learn about the geologic and paleontological history of Chaco before it was a canyon. Earn a Junior Paleontologist badge through activities, fossil displays, specimen handling, casting and molding demonstrations, and a simulated paleontological excavation. Archaeological displays will also be available. Location: Visitor Center courtyard.
4 p.m.: Ranger guided fossil walk through Pueblo Bonito. Meet at Pueblo Bonito trail head (1 hour).
Saturday, October 18, 2014 (International Archaeology Day)
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.: Digging into Archaeology: a simulated excavation of an archaeological dig. Preserving Chaco: learn about preservation techniques and methods used for preserving prehistoric architecture. Paleontological specimen displays will also be available. Location: Visitor Center courtyard.
1 p.m.: The 15-meter Transect: Surveying on the Ground: learn about archaeological survey methods, mapping, recording, and interpreting archaeological sites. This program is a simulated survey that will take place in the Visitor Center amphitheatre (1 hour).
4 p.m.: Guided walk with Paleontologist and Archaeologist through Pueblo Bonito. Meet at Pueblo Bonito trail head (1 hour).
