Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park
Operating Hours & Seasons

All units of the National Military Park are open between sunrise and sunset.

  • Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
  • Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time in off-seasons. The Visitor Center is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Time in the summer.

Both Visitor Centers are closed on Christmas Day and on New Years Day.

The historic Cravens House on Lookout Mountain is open for tours Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the summer. Cravens House closes at 5:00 p.m. Contact Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center at 423-821-7786 for additional information.

The summer season provides a wider variety of ranger led programs for the public. Please click here for the summer 2011 summer programming schedule.

The summer season is from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

In 1838, twenty-five years before he led the Confederate army defending Chattanooga, North Carolina native Braxton Bragg was part of a U.S. Army unit assigned to roundup and relocate members of the Cherokee Nation from the very area of much of the eventual Civil War Campaign for Chattanooga.
