Fort Oglethorpe, GA: Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to participate in a free program on Saturday, February 16, 2013. Participants are encouraged to meet at Outdoor Chattanooga (200 River Street) in North Shore Chattanooga at 3:00 p.m. for a two hour, 1.8 mile walking tour that will discuss the importance of Ross’s Landing before and during Indian Removal. Have you ever walked down to the Tennessee River front in Chattanooga and noticed a small park with words “The Passage” inscribed on the one of the walls? This park marked the approximate location of Ross’s Landing, a place where thousands of Cherokee Indians disembarked to traverse the often dangerous route they came to call The Trail of Tears. Learn more of the history associated with Ross’s Landing and Indian Removal by participating in this educational walk. As a reminder, comfortable, supportive footwear, appropriate clothing for the weather, and water are recommended for this program.
