Brown's Ferry Federal Road Dedication

The reopening of the historic Brown's Ferry Federal Road that crosses Moccasin Bend will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at 10 a.m. The .6 mile trace ends at the Tennessee River shoreline. As you gaze across the river, you are transported back to 1838, a time when the road was used to remove members of the Cherokee and Creek Nations to Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma). The road also reveals the role played during the Civil War as a pivitol location in breaking the Confederate siege on the Union army encamped in Chattanooga.

How to get to the Brown's Ferry Federal Road Ceremony:

Buses will be available to transport participants to the opening ceremony beginning at 9:15 a.m. from the parking area located at the Friends of Moccasin Bend National Park's offices at 175 Hamm Road, Chattanooga, TN 37405. Buses will also return throughout the day with the last bus departing Brown's Ferry Federal Road for the Friends' offices at 4:30 p.m.

Special Interpretive Programs:

Following the dedication, there will be a guided interpretive walk (90-minutes) beginning at 11:00 a.m. that will discuss the importance of the Brown's Ferry Federal Road property related to Indian Removal in 1838.This walk will be repeated at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
