Fort Oglethorpe, GA: Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to participate in a 2-hour, 2-mile guided walking tour of Snodgrass Hill/Horseshoe Ridge on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at 9:30 am. This tour will begin at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center and caravan to Snodgrass Hill/Horseshoe Ridge.

As the right flank of the Union army collapsed under the enormous weight of Confederate attackers, Assistant Secretary of War Charles Dana recalled, "I had no sooner collected my thoughts and looked around toward the front…than I saw our lines break and melt away like leaves before the wind." However, the storm of lead and iron raging around Dana and others would not be the end of the story for the Union army at Chickamauga. Fragments of blue-clad units found a place to make a last ditch, final stand against their Southern pursuers. That place was Snodgrass Hill/Horseshoe Ridge and would forever be written in the annals of history by the blood of the men who fell there in defense of their country. Please join this special walking tour to learn more about the stories associated with the men who attacked and defended this ridgeline in 1863.

Comfortable, supportive footwear, clothing appropriate for the weather and water are recommended for this program.
