Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to participate in a free ranger-guided tour focusing on the Civil War story associated with Moccasin Bend's Brown's Ferry Federal Road on Saturday, March 8, 2014. The mile and a half, two-hour program will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Brown's Ferry Federal Road trailhead on Moccasin Bend Road. To find the trailhead, follow the "Special Event" signs beginning on Manufactures Road.

It was a gamble to say the least, sneaking up on Confederates in order to open a vital supply line to a starving Union army in Chattanooga. In the early morning hours of October 27, 1863, over a thousand blue-clad soldiers silently floated down the Tennessee River toward Brown's Ferry, an important river crossing guarded by Confederates. Suddenly, masked by the darkness and fog, Union soldiers made landfall! We encourage you to join us on this special program to find out what happened next.

Comfortable, supportive, wet-weather footwear, clothing appropriate for the weather and water are recommended for this program.
