Fort Oglethorpe, GA: Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to attend a special program on Saturday, July 19 at 2:00 p.m. This program will discuss General John Bell Hood's appointment to command the Confederate Army of Tennessee during the 1864 Atlanta Campaign. Visitors should meet at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center and will caravan to the program location.

Despite being wounded twice in 1863, first at Gettysburg, and then at Chickamauga, this "wounded warrior" beat the odds in more ways than one. In the midst of the Atlanta Campaign, July 17, 1864, he was appointed by President Jefferson Davis to command the Army of Tennessee.  This program will focus on the many odds that Hood beat in taking command and the many obstacles that he had before him in the summer of 1864.

Comfortable footwear, portable chairs, and water are recommended for this program.
