Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Outdoor Chattanooga Partner to Provide Orchard Knob Bicycle Tour

Fort Oglethorpe, GA: Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Outdoor Chattanooga are partnering in order to provide visitors a unique opportunity to explore Orchard Knob and the surrounding community by bicycle on May 16. This two hour bicycle tour will begin at Orchard Knob Elementary School (2000 East 3rd Street, Chattanooga, TN 37421) at 9:30 am. Participants will then bike to Orchard knob Reservation, through the surrounding neighborhood, and end at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.The overall ride length for this tour is approximately 2.5 miles on flat to moderately-hilly terrain.

The public is invited to bring their bicycles and join in this leisurely-paced historical ride. A National Park Service ranger will discuss the famous assaults on Orchard Knob and Missionary Ridge as part of this special program. Participants will also visit the Chattanooga National Cemetery in order to learn more about the sacrifices soldiers made in order to redefine the country.

Loaner bicycles from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bicycle Fleet will be available for riders five feet tall and over at no charge, thanks to sponsorship from the Friends of the Park and the Chattanooga Bicycle Club. Reservations for these bicycles are required, contact Outdoor Chattanooga at 423-643-6888. This ride is appropriate for adults and children ages eight and older when accompanied by an adult. All participants are required to wear helmets.
