Public access on National Park Service property at Moccasin Bend National Archeological District is at the Blue Blazes Trail.

The following procedures are in place to access other areas of the district:

Two weeks prior to arrival, groups must contact Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. Please call 423-752-5213 x117 or emailĀ to request approval.

Once groups gain approval for a date and time to visit, a National Park Service Ranger must be present with the respective group at all times while on Moccasin Bend National Archeological District.

Ambrose Bierce, noted American writer of the late 19th Century, and author of "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," "Chickamauga," and other Civil War stories, served as topographical engineer (map maker) on General William B. Hazen's staff during the Chattanooga Campaign.
