We're sorry but this program has been cancelled.

Bring your own canoe or kayak and join the National Park Service for a ranger-led leisurely paddle on the Chattahoochee River. Our down-river journey will take us past Woodland American Indian village sites, the location were Sherman's Troops outflanked the Confederate Army, suburban homes, and forests of extraordinary beauty. There are 4 mild class 1.5 rapids suitable for beginners along this part of the river. We will pass flat floodplains and steep ridges rising to over 1,000 feet. The area offers a great diversity of habitats. Created by the geologic action of the Brevard Fault, the river, and the effects of weather; this rugged and beautiful section of the river is habitat to an extraordinary array of wildlife, wildflowers, and ferns. We should see Great Blue Herons, Kingfishers, hawks, and the burrows of Beavers and Muskrat.

Dress for the weather; wear warm quick drying clothes and good river shoes. No flip-flops! Have a nylon bag to secure your valuables in your boat. Place valuables in zip closure freezer bags or dry bag. Bring your lunch, water, and we will picnic along the way. You may wish to bring binoculars and camera. Don't forget a hat, rain jacket, and sunscreen!

Note: The $3 Daily Park Pass is not required for vehicles displaying a current Annual Park Pass or an America the Beautiful Pass!
