Directions
From I-285 East
- Take exit 22, Northside Drive, New Northside Drive, Powers Ferry Road.
- Right on Northside Drive to Powers Ferry Road.
- Right 1.5 miles to Akers Drive
- Left at the wooden “mill wheel.”
- Unit entrance road will be the second left with visitor parking on the right.
From I-285 West
- Take exit 22, New Northside Drive, Northside Drive, Powers Ferry Road.
- Straight to second traffic light.
- Left on Northside Drive to Powers Ferry Road.
- Right 1.5 miles to Akers Drive
- Left at the wooden “mill wheel.”
- Unit entrance road will be the second left with visitor parking being on the right.
From U.S. 41 (Cobb Parkway North) to Akers Mill Road
- Right 1 mile; pass the second entrance to Palisades Apartments.
- Right at the wooden “mill wheel” onto Akers Drive.
- Take second left, visitor parking will be on the right.
From U.S. 41 (Cobb Parkway South) to Akers Mill Road
- Right 1 mile; pass the second entrance to Palisades Apartments.
- Right at the wooden “mill wheel” onto Akers Drive.
- Take second left, visitor parking will be on the right.
Activities
Akers Mill offers several miles of trails and scenic spots including Sandy Point, a small beach-like area that juts into the river. To download a printable trail map (Requires Adobe Reader.)

Did You Know?
The Island Ford Visitor Contact Station was once the Summer family home of former Georgia Superior Court Judge Samuel Hewlett. Construction began in the 1930's, using timber from the Okeefenokee Swamp and stone from Stone Mountain, taking six years to complete.
