Watch for rapidly rising river levels on the Chattahoochee River and its tributaries. Water released from dams and heavy rain can turn a day on the river into a tragedy!
Call for Water Release Schedule
With colder temperatures you can expect longer and more frequent water releases. For water release schedule info, call 1-855-DAM-FLOW (1-855-326-3569) for Buford Dam and 404-329-1455 for Morgan Falls Dam. Save numbers to your cell!
Here are a few scenes from the Fifth Annual Summer Splash on Saturday, July 28, 2012! Five hundred and fifty-one paddlers floated from Morgan Falls to Powers Island, many of them first-time visitors. Enjoy!
[sirens] Hello. I’m Chief Ranger Chris Arthur with the US Army Corps of Engineers. I’m standing just below Buford Dam. The current in this river can change very quickly. We want you to know a few things before you come to the river. Know the times of water releases and be prepared for changes. Know to look for signage along the river. Know that you must wear your life jacket while in this section of the river. Remember, your safety is our concern. Know about the flow before you go! Thanks Ranger Chris! I’m National Park Service Ranger Marjorie Thomas, downstream at the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Safety is important to us as well. Be cautious. Don’t go in the water if the river is high or fast-moving. Be a buddy. Always bring a friend with you to the river and let others know of your plans. Be aware. Exhaustion and even hypothermia occur quickly in cold water. Be safe. Never jump or dive into the river. Remember, the Chattahoochee River is your river to enjoy, but be safe! Your life depends on it.
