Public Meeting for Proposed Bike / Pedestrian Bridge At Morgan Falls Dam
Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is conducting a public meeting on April 30th, 7 – 9 p.m., at the Chattahoochee Nature Center to discuss a potential bike / pedestrian bridge below Morgan Falls Dam. The proposed bridge would connect the planned Overlook and riverside parks in Sandy Springs with National Park Service (NPS) property, including Hyde farm, in Cobb County.

Temporary Take Out at Paces Mill
The National Park Service announced today that the Paces Mill boat ramp located at US Highway 41 is being rebuilt to provide better access for river users. Contractor construction crews have closed the boat ramp. Persons canoeing, kayaking, and rafting down the Chattahoochee River will be able to use a temporary river take out located 200 feet downstream from the closed boat ramp.

Great Backyard Bird Count in your National Park 2007
The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area will be hosting the Audubon Great Backyard Bird Count on Saturday, February 17, 2007. The national park is looking for volunteers to assist park staff with gathering information on various bird species that live in different units of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

Each year following the holidays, the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area runs victim to the illegal dumping of Christmas trees and other types of debris. Not only does removal of the waste cost the park significantly, but the trees could potentially contain contaminants, which pose a threat to the flora and fauna of the local environment.

Georgia State Parks Revising Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP)
How do Georgia’s diverse citizens envision outdoor recreation in the future? Are they satisfied with the availability of horse trails and hiking trails? Do they have enough fields for their kids to play soccer or softball? Are they more interested in wildlife watching or fishing opportunities? And what steps should be taken now so that Georgia meets those needs 20 years in the future?
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is working with the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association, University of Georgia’s Fanning Institute and other partners to answer these questions while updating the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP).

At 5:20 a.m. this morning, a 54" water main located within park boundaries at Cochran Shoals broke causing a 25' x 25' hole with up to 500,000 gallons of water released onto the park grounds.

Park Tree Planting Project Destroyed
A Boy Scout troop planted 300 trees to prevent further erosion along the stream bank due to a social trail. Ten days later, park staff found that all of the trees planted within the social trail were pulled out of the ground and discarded.
