Woodland Sunflower

Tom Barnes, University of Kentucky

The Woodland Sunflower (Helianthus divaricatus) is a perennial herb that grows 2-6 feet tall. It can be found along roadsides, in woodlands, and on rocky bluffs. Its flowers bloom from July to September and are about 2 inches in diameter. It thrives in sun or partial shade and adapts to both moist and dry soils. It is appropriate for meadows, grasslands and woodlands. Because it is aggressive, it may not be appropriate for perennial borders or other managed areas.
