One Week Left to Apply for Summer Jobs in Youth Conservation Corps Program
Sandy Springs: If you're between the ages of 15 and 19 and looking for a job this summer, Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area wants to hear from you! The Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a federal program aimed at providing meaningful conservation work for young people through summer jobs. The deadline to apply for positions this summer is Saturday, May 4. The jobs pay $7.50 an hour, which is higher than the federal minimum wage, and the hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Some weekend days may be required.
"This is a great opportunity for young people to work outdoors and get a start with the National Park Service," said Chattahoochee River Superintendent Patty Wissinger. "This program creates stewards for the future of our public lands."
The crew will work on a wide variety of trail maintenance projects including trail clearing, repairs, and construction. Environmental education programs will be offered as part of this year's program. A minimum of 40 hours will be spent on environmental programs provided by our staff in conjunction with other park areas. For more information, including application procedures and materials, please visit the YCC page on the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area web site at http://www.nps.gov/chat/parkmgmt/youth-conservation-corps.htm
