Chamizal National Memorial
Siglo de Oro 2010

1976 to 2010 - 35 years of dramatic excellence

Few could have predicted in 1976 that a presentation of classical Spanish plays in honor of our nation's bicentennial would become a cornerstone of Chamizal's cultural programming, world reknown, and the longest running festival of its kind in the world. The Siglo de Oro Spanish Drama Festival has grown annually into a multi-national cultural event that brings performing groups, scholars, and audience members from around the Spanish speaking world and academic communities.

by artist Rodolfo Razo

In June 2009 the park selected Rodolfo Razo as the official poster artist for the upcoming 35th anniversary of Siglo de Oro. Selected by the entire staff and volunteers of the memorial, Mr. Razo's work "Spanish Painting of the Baroque Period", will be used for the creation of the festival's posters and other promotional materials.

Mr. Razo's work was selected from a "call to artists" in which 21 amateur and professional artists and graphic designers competed. As part of the competition, the winning artist is given the opportunity to display other pieces of their artwork in an exhibition coinciding with the festival.

Rio Grande / Rio Bravo river

Did You Know?
The only natural boundary between the United States and Mexico is the Rio Grande River, which was established in 1848 by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The Rio Bravo, as the river is known in Mexico, makes up about 1000 miles of the 2000 mile border between the two countries.
