Chamizal National Memorial* is partnering with the El Paso Zoo, El Paso Parks and Recreation and local parks as one of seven sites around El Paso participating in the new Chihuahuan Desert Nature Club. The purpose of the club is to connect people with our local natural environment and help them learn more about the plants and animals that also live here. The Chihuahuan Desertgets its name from the State of Chihuahua, Mexico. Most of the Chihuahuan Desert ecosystem is located in Mexico.

Membership is free and open to all ages.To join, you just need to visit one of the Nature Club's Chihuahuan Desert Hot Spots, pick up a flier, and get your first stamp. Once you have visited at least three (3) of the seven (7) participating Hot Spots, show your stamped flier and receive your official Chihuahuan Desert Nature Club sticker. Have fun while you learn more about the Chihuahuan Desert where we all live. You can also go online to get connected. You will receive information and invitations to special Nature Club events. Visit chihuahuandesert.org to sign up and learn more.

Superintendent F. Gus Sanchez invites and encourages "El Pasoans of all ages to join the club and get outside to enjoy our some of the natural areas located in and around our city. It's fun and it's free, so anyone can become a member," says Superintendent Sanchez. "The Chihuahuan Desert ecosystem and its natural history is something else we share with our neighbors to the south in Mexico, as well as our shared cultural history of the peaceful settlement of the century-long international boundary dispute caused by the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo shifting over time."

Other participating club Hot Spots in addition to this national park include city and state park locations: the Don Haskins Recreation Center Nature Trail*, El Paso Zoo, Franklin Mountains State Park (Tom Mays Unit), Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site, Rio Bosque Wetlands Park*, and Wyler Aerial Tramway State Park.

*The asterisk at the end of the site's name means that admission to that site is FREE;others have an admission fee.
