West Virginia Independence Hall: Originally constructed as a U.S. Custom House in the spring and summer of 1861, the building was the home of pro-Union State conventions of Virginia. It served as the capitol of the Restored (Unionst) Government of Virginia between 1861 and 1863. The first constitutional convention for the new state of West Virginia also took place here, earning the structure its name of Independence Hall. The State of West Virginia purchased the building in 1964 and restored it to serve as a museum.
