Woodlands
Honorable Mention for Exterior Image: Woodlands 40th Street and Woodland Avenue
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Photographer: Catharine P. Fussell

Woodlands: This two story house of gray fieldstone is a notable example of late Georgian domestic residential architecture. It was remodeled in the Adamesque style. The distinctive features of the house, namely the doric portico on the river facade, are due to alterations made by William Hamilton from 1788-1790, upon his return from England. In the 1840's, the acerage surrounding the house became a rural cemetery with the house used for the caretaker. The property remains in this use today.
