Natural Bridge: During colonial times, and into the early Republic, Natural Bridge was considered one of the most notable natural wonders of the New World. It was a source of inspiration for writers and artists who regarded it as one of the most awesome and sublime landscapes in America. Thomas Jefferson once owned the bridge, kept it open to the public, constructed a cabin for the comfort of visitors, and directed that nothing be done to interfere with its beauty or cause it harm. The first sight of the bridge spanning a rocky, wooded ravine and creek still causes sensitive hearts to skip a beat. The bridge is open
to the public.
