Litchfield Historic District: Probably the finest surviving example of a typical late 18th century New England town, Litchfield was settled in the 1720s and named for the cathedral city in Staffordshire, England. For much of the 1700s Litchfield was an outpost and trading center for the northwest frontier. The town reflects architectural styles of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, as well as Colonial Revival.
