Draft of General Management Plan Available for Public Review

The document is available for download at the park planning web site parkplanning.nps.gov/cebe. Hard copies of the plan may be obtained by contacting the park at (540) 868-9176.

CDs and printed copies are available; supplies of the printed copies are limited. Also, the document is available for review at the park office at 7718½ Main St., Middletown, VA.

The National Park Service invites public comment on the plan. The preferred method of comment is on the park planning web site, parkplanning.nps.gov/cebe. Comments may also be mailed to Superintendent Diann Jacox, Cedar Creek and Belle Grove NHP, P.O. Box 700, Middletown, VA 22645. The National Park Service will accept comments on the Draft GMP until February 27, 2009.

In 1860, Shenandoah Valley counties voted for John Bell, a moderate Democrat dedicated to maintaining the Union. Valley counties at a state convention urged staying in the Union, but after the firing on Fort Sumter they stayed with Virginia rather than joining the new state of West Virginia.
