The monument operates a bookstore in the visitor center to provide information about subjects related to the park. Books about volcanoes, geology, history, and animals are available in addition to postcards, bookmarks, posters and instant cameras.

The store is operated by Western National Parks Association. It is a nonprofit cooperating association of the National Park Service. Headquartered in Tucson, Arizona, the association was founded in 1938 as the Southwest Monuments Association to support the interpretive activities of the National Park Service.

Capulin Volcano is just one of about one hundred volcanic features in the Raton-Clayton Volcanic Field which covers about 8000 square miles in northeastern New Mexico and southeastern Colorado.
