Summer Market at Capulin Volcano continues on Sunday, July 13
Our Summer Market at Capulin Volcano event series is back! This unique outdoor market is held outside the Visitor Center at Capulin Volcano National Monument from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features good food, great music, and handmade goods from across the Southwest.
This year we are celebrating the tastes of summer with sweet Sangre de Cristo honey, smoky southern BBQ, spicy chile ristras, and solar roasted coffee. Delicious treats from cookies and fry bread to fresh fruits and vegetables will tickle your tongue and ensure that no belly leaves empty. Enjoy music from American Idol competitor Brooke Stratton, Red Dirt artist Ben Marshall, and Capulin's very own Dry Cimarron (Dino Cornay and Jason Cruz). Attend a Junior Ranger Program at our outdoor classroom. Or checkout our artists' booths featuring handmade cedar and stone inlay bowls, paintings, custom jewelry, and handmade soap.
Each Summer Market event features a select group of participating vendors including:
n Raw, varietal honey from Grampa's Gourmet Honey of Alamosa, CO;
n Delicious all natural, spelt flour cookies from Lenore's Speltlicious Cookies of Alamosa, CO;
n Hand-crafted chile ristras from New Mexico Chile and Ristras of Glorieta, NM;
n Tasty handmade tortillas from Anna's Tortilleria of Raton, NM;
n Eco-friendly coffee beans from Solar Roast Coffee of Pueblo, CO;
n Handcrafted apothecary soaps from Good Morning Soap Company of Mora, NM, and Apache Valley Soap Company of Clayton, NM.
Additional vendors include Matt Martinez/Taos Spirit Blossom (Taos, NM), Lindsay Wells/Studio L Jewelry (Albuquerque, NM), and painter/furnituremaker Mikel Davison (Duncan, OK), who is currently the Artist-In-Residence at Capulin Volcano. Mr. C's BBQ of Raton will offer a lunch menu of burgers, pulled pork and brisket sandwiches with green chile.
Created to celebrate regional culture, offer economic opportunities for artisans, and reconnect residents with the natural treasure that marks the landscape in their own backyards, the Summer Market is a partnership program of Tucson-based Western National Parks Association (WNPA) and the National Park Service (NPS).
Capulin Volcano National Monument will be open on Market days for regular hours of operation 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and National Park Service staff will offer Junior Ranger programs twice daily. Visitors are advised that increased summer visitation often necessitates a wait for driving to the volcano rim.
The Summer Market, Park Store, and Visitor Center at Capulin Volcano are fee-free; standard fee of $5 per vehicle (or appropriate pass) is required to drive to the top of the volcano. Capulin Volcano is located 33 miles east of Interstate 25 at Raton, NM, via US Highway 64/87. The park entrance is on New Mexico Highway 325, 3 miles north of the town of Capulin, which is at the junction of NM Hwy 325 and US Hwy 64/87. For more information, visit the Capulin Volcano Facebook page or call 575-278-2201, Ext. 0.
