  • Cave Lighting Project

    We are undergoing a year-long lighting project in the cavern. Please be aware of caution tape along pathways inside the cave and use due care.

  • Scenic Loop Road Closed

    The 9-mile scenic Loop Road (Desert Drive) is closed due to weather damage. The road will reopen as soon as repairs are done. This scenic road does not affect road access to the visitor center or the cave.

Fees & Reservations

The only way to see the Queen's Chamber in Carlsbad Cavern is to take the Kings Palace guided tour. Reservations for all guided tours are stronly recommended.

Entrance Fee (Self-Guided Tours)

All visitors who enter Carlsbad Cavern, for any tour, are required to purchase an entrance ticket, which is good for three days ("Bat Flight" is a free, non-reservable program).

Entrance Fee:

Adults and young adults 16 and older - $10

Children 15 and under - Free

When using an America the Beautiful - National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass, Annual Pass, Senior Pass, Access Pass or Volunteer Pass, the pass admits the cardholder plus three adults (where a per person fee is charged).

Entrance fees for all self-guided tours of Carlsbad Caverns are FREE on the following dates:

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday - January 20
  • Presidents Day Weekend - February 15-17
  • National Park's Week Opening Weekend - April 19-20
  • 98th Birthday of National Park Service - August 25
  • National Public Lands Day - September 27
  • Veterans Day - November 11

Ranger-Guided Tour Fees

King's Palace - $8 for adults, $4 for children, under 4 not permitted. Must also purchase entrance ticket. $4 for Senior and Access Pass holders.

Left Hand Tunnel - $7 for adults, $3.50 for children, under 6 not permitted. Must also purchase entrance ticket. $3.50 for Senior and Access Pass holders.

Slaughter Canyon Cave - $15 for adults, $7.50 for children, under 8 not permitted. $7.50 for Senior and Access Pass holders.

Lower Cave - $20 for adults, $10 for children, under 12 not permitted. Must also purchase entrance ticket. $10 for Senior and Access Pass holders.

Hall of the White Giant - $20 for adults, $10 for children, under 12 not permitted. Must also purchase entrance ticket. $10 for Senior and Access Pass holders.

Spider Cave - $20 for adults, $10 for children, under 12 not permitted. $10 for Senior and Access Pass holders.



Did You Know?

The natural entrance of Carlsbad Cavern.

In 2003, a park employee found a piece of a stone scraper within view of Carlsbad Cavern's entrance that goes back to Ice Age Indian hunters. In 2004, archeologists found fragments of two spear points of the Midland-style Paleo Indian projectile points of some 10,000 years ago.
