Currently there are no fees to visit Oakland or Magnolia plantations. However, reservations are suggested for groups larger than 15 people. Both plantation grounds are open daily from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. There is a daily house tour of Oakland at 1:00 p.m. everyday. The house at Magnolia is closed and tours are not offered.

Prud'hommes

The French founder of Oakland was Jean Pierre Emanuel Prud’homme, who began farming the area in 1785 and received a Spanish land grant in 1789. Eight generations of his French Creole family lived and worked on this land, managing to keep the physical complex intact for two centuries.
