  • ORV Plan Comment Period Extended

    On May 23, 2014, the NPS released a Environmental Impact Statement for its Off-Road Vehicle Management Plan for a 60-day comment period, which was extended to September 4. The comment period will be extend an additional 15 days until September 19, 2014.

Are you looking for some activities that you can do as a family? Then make plans to come to the Harkers Island Visitor Center and learn some fun outdoor family oriented activities. Bird Watching, Fishing, and Kayaking are great family activities that the whole family can enjoy. The entire family is welcome but there are some age restrictions for the Learn to Kayak portion.

All activities are free to the public and will take place at Shell Point across from the Harkers Island Visitor Center.

Groups are asked to contact the park (252-728-2250 or e-mail us) to let us know how many people you plan to bring.

Wildlife is not the only life on the Outer Banks Learn from local Master Gardeners how to identify some beautiful native plants. 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Take a Hike Enjoy some breath taking views while walking along the Soundside Trail. 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Nature and Technology Learn to use a Global Positioning System (GPS) as you locate the points on a scavenger hunt. 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Surf Fishing Fishing is great family fun. Learn to use a surf rod, cast a net and rake for some clams. 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
