Public Invited to Comment on the Draft Revision of the National Park Service Management Policies

Harkers Island, NC. Cape Lookout National Seashore Acting Superintendent Cherry Payne invites the public to a meeting to learn about the Draft Revision of the National Park Service (NPS) Management Policies, and how to provide their comments to the NPS. The Management Policies is the main policy document of the National Park Service; the last revision of the Management Policies was issued in 2001.

The NPS is proposing to update the policies that guide the management of the national park system. The policies are being updated to improve their clarity and to keep pace with changes in laws, regulations, socio-economic factors, and technology. The revised policies will also improve understanding among NPS managers and the public as to how decisions are made to protect park resources and to provide opportunities for public enjoyment of the parks.

We recommend that you review the ¡§Annotated Comparison Between 2001 and Current Draft¡¨ document that is located at the bottom of the screen.

Individuals are encouraged to submit comments on the Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) website by Saturday, February 18, 2006. If you do not have access to the site, we will provide a digital copy of the document at the public meeting and you can submit your comments in writing to the Superintendent by close of business Friday, January 27, 2006.
