Wildlife closures on South Core and "Ophelia" Banks

The following areas are closed to vehicle use:

"Ophelia" Island

  • Entire island closed to vehicles, April 1st to August 31st. 

 

South Core Banks

  • Ocean beach from Ramp 26a to Ramp 26b. Vehicles detoured to back road.
  • Ocean beach from Ramp 31 to Ramp 32. Vehicles detoured to back road.
  • Ocean beach from Ramp 35a to Ramp 36. Vehicles detoured to back road.
  • Ocean beach from Ramp 41b to Ramp 42b. Vehicles detoured to back road.  

To be reopened in the afternoon of 8/15/08 barring any unforseen circumstances.

  • Ocean beach from Ramp 37b to Ramp 38. Vehicles detoured to backroad.

Diamond City, a community that once stood on the eastern end of Shackleford Banks, was named after the daymark pattern on the nearby Cape Lookout Lighthouse. Cape Lookout National Seashore
