Moving the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
The roll beams are all out and the main beams (with the move platform/lighthouse above) are being supported by the temporary cribbing towers. The "in-between" rows of cribbing towers are being removed so that the steel support towers can be placed. When this is done, the main beams with their cribbing, the strong back beams, and some of the cross beams will be removed, leaving only some support cross beams and the steel support towers. Then the "bricking" for the permanent foundation begins. The lighthouse has been lowered about 25 inches from its arrival elevation. 07/15/99
