Moving the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
The last bit of the original foundation left below the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. This was removed May 5; the lighthouse is now only supported by the shoring towers. 05/04/99

The ends of the cross beams that will be used to raise and carry the lighthouse to its new location. Looking carefully, you can see that they fit between the shoring towers; once the lighthouse is raised, the shoring towers will be removed and relocated at the receiving site. 05/04/99
