Shine a light on learning by visiting the Cape Hatteras Light Station!Teachers and students can explore the park by participating in a ranger-led program and self-guided field trips. There is no cost to attend or sign up for in-person ranger programs. Read below to learn how to plan your perfect field trip! Please note: All field trips and groups requesting a Ranger Program are REQUIRED to make a reservation. Please fill out the Field Trip Request Form to begin planning your field trip. Once the form is complete, email it to obx_interpretation@nps.gov. Staff will respond to your email confirming your request. A ranger program is not confirmed until you receive an email from the park. If a self-guided trip is preferred, there are opportunities to visit the free Museum of the Sea, which is located on the Cape Hatteras Light Station grounds. In addition, a Visitor Center Scavenger Hunt worksheet can be provided that will focus students' attention, challenging them to discover the key points of interest in our exhibit. Know Before You Go!
Across the street you will find the Buxton Woods Nature Trail -- a 3/4 mile loop with ample picnicking opportunities. You may also visit Old Lighthouse Beach, located just 1/2 mile north of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, to see the original lighthouse location before it was moved! Virtual field trip opportunities are also available for the Seashore. Presentations engage students through live video and interaction with a ranger in real time. If you are interested in this distance learning option, please fill out our Virtual Field Trip Request Form. Please email the completed form to obx_interpretation@nps.gov. Virtual Program Details
